Yeongdeungpo-gu, Childbirth-Friendly City Idea Contest
Vlogs? Web Dramas? Webtoons? Recruiting Birth Encouragement Promotional Content Including Posters... Top Winners Awarded Prizes Worth 500,000 KRW... Total of 12 Winners
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) has launched the “Childbirth-Friendly City Idea Contest” project, which solicits policy ideas to increase the local birth rate and promotional content encouraging childbirth.
According to statistics, South Korea’s total fertility rate has been declining annually, recorded at 0.98 in 2018 and 0.92 in 2019.
This figure is far below the average total fertility rate of 1.63 among OECD countries (as of 2018), and South Korea is the only country with a total fertility rate below 1.
Last year, the number of births in Yeongdeungpo-gu was 2,633 (based on 2019 data). In terms of the number of births, it ranked 4th among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul, placing it in the upper tier; however, its total fertility rate was 0.829, which is lower than the national average but higher than the overall Seoul city total fertility rate of 0.717.
In response, the district recognized the need for fundamental and effective measures against low birth rates and launched this childbirth-friendly city idea contest to actively gather opinions from residents, who are the beneficiaries of childbirth policies.
The contest categories are ▲ policy ideas to address low birth rates and encourage childbirth ▲ promotional content related to childbirth encouragement (videos, slogans, posters, webtoons).
Policy ideas may include concepts related to pregnancy, marriage, childbirth, childcare support, as well as ideas promoting work-family balance culture, gender equality policy projects, and other related topics.
For childbirth encouragement promotional content, video submissions can take various forms such as vlogs, campaign videos, web dramas, etc., with a duration limit of 5 minutes or less (for synopses, within 3 pages of A4).
Webtoons should be formatted for web publication, with a total length of about 25 panels; posters should be submitted as A2 size image files (jpg, png), with one submission allowed per applicant (or group); slogans should be submitted as Korean language files within two sentences, with one submission allowed per applicant (or group).
Anyone residing in the district can apply, as well as workers, students, and group members located in Yeongdeungpo-gu.
The application period is until the 18th of this month. Applicants should refer to the district website and submit policy idea application forms or promotional content produced according to specifications by visiting in person, mail, or email.
The district plans to design and implement low birth rate countermeasures reflecting residents’ opinions and policy ideas gathered through this contest, and actively utilize the selected promotional materials to encourage childbirth.
For more detailed information about this contest, please refer to the district website or contact the Yeongdeungpo-gu Childcare Support Division.
