The province plans to purchase a total of 72,000 tons of public stockpiled rice by December. It will buy 23,000 tons of unprocessed paddy (paddy not dried after harvest) by the 20th, and 49,000 tons of dried paddy daily until December 31.
The purchase price will be based on the average price of rice at production sites surveyed by the Statistics Korea every 10 days from the 5th to December 25. Immediately after purchasing the paddy, an interim payment of 30,000 KRW per sack (40kg/rough rice) will be paid to farmers first, and the remaining balance will be settled and paid by the end of the year after the purchase price is finalized.
To enhance the quality of government grain stocks, the varieties of paddy eligible for purchase are designated up to two per city or county by region. Farmers who participate in sales with varieties not designated will be excluded from the public stockpiling purchase target farms for five years.
