Fire at Chilgok Factory... 14 Buildings Burned Down, Extinguished After About 12 Hours
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] A fire broke out at a factory in the Waegwan General Industrial Complex, Samcheong-ri, Waegwan-eup, Chilgok-gun, Gyeongbuk, around 3:10 a.m. on the 4th and was extinguished after about 12 hours.
The fire department deployed about 360 personnel and 52 pieces of equipment, including one helicopter, and extinguished the fire at around 3:55 p.m. on the same day, 12 hours and 45 minutes later.
The fire burned 14 factory buildings belonging to five companies, causing property damage estimated by the fire station at 479 million KRW. It was investigated that the property damage was significant due to the burning of raw wood materials, vinyl materials, plastic raw materials, and machinery inside the factory buildings.
A fire department official said, "The firefighting time was prolonged because six excavators had to remove steel frame structures as the steel panel-structured buildings collapsed, extinguishing the burning raw materials."
There were no casualties as no workers were present at the factory during the fire, and six workers who were in the dormitory safely evacuated.
The fire department issued a Level 1 response, mobilizing all fire station personnel to fight the fire, but faced difficulties due to strong winds.
