Second-generation Korean immigrant Andy Kim likely elected as U.S. federal congressman
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Andy Kim (Democrat), a second-generation Korean American running for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives, is leading his opponent by a significant margin midway through the vote count, making his victory highly likely.
According to RealClearPolitics' tally on the 3rd (local time), Representative Andy Kim is leading Republican candidate David Richter by about 11 percentage points with 55% support to Richter's 42% as 42% of the votes have been counted in New Jersey's 3rd congressional district.
Andy Kim is currently the only Korean American serving in the U.S. House of Representatives. He majored in political science at the University of Chicago and was selected as a Rhodes Scholar, pursuing master's and doctoral degrees in international relations at the University of Oxford in the UK.

Representative Andy Kim's area of expertise is foreign affairs and national security. He worked at the U.S. Department of State starting in 2009 and also served in the Afghanistan War. During the Obama administration, he served as a senior advisor responsible for Middle Eastern countries including Iraq at the White House National Security Council (NSC).
