Kia Motors Posts Double-Digit Sales Growth in US for Two Consecutive Months... Telluride Nears 10,000 Units Sold
[Asia Economy Reporter Su-yeon Woo] Kia Motors is performing well in the U.S. market, showing double-digit growth for two consecutive months. The locally strategic sport utility vehicle (SUV), Telluride, set a record nearing 10,000 units sold, breaking its all-time monthly sales record for two months in a row.
Kia Motors announced on the 4th that it sold 56,094 units in the U.S. market in October, a 12.2% increase compared to the same month last year. Following a 24% increase in September, Kia is rapidly growing with double-digit growth rates in October as well.
This is due to the overall recovery in demand in the U.S. automotive industry last month, along with strong performance from Hyundai-Kia’s popular SUVs. Competitors such as Toyota (8.8%), Subaru (10.6%), and Mazda (16.5%) also showed strong sales last month.
The remarkable growth of Kia was driven by the U.S. strategic SUV Telluride. Last month, Telluride sold 9,697 units, close to 10,000, setting a new monthly sales record for two consecutive months. The new K5, which was renamed from the previous model name 'Optima,' also set new sales records for four consecutive months since July, selling 7,528 units.
During the same period, Hyundai Motor Company sold 57,395 units, a 0.5% increase compared to the previous year, recovering sales to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels. SUV models such as Tucson (10,898 units) and Santa Fe (9,072 units) accounted for 62% of total sales, leading to improved performance.
