73% of Seocho Residents Satisfied with Seocho Molka Security Guard Activities
Over 89,701 Sites Inspected in 3 Years, Receiving Strong Support from Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) is accelerating the Seocho Molka Security Guard project for women's safety and the safety of Seocho families, based on an effectiveness analysis of the operation of the Seocho Molka Security Guard, which has been in place for three years.
According to a survey conducted on 500 Seocho residents, 74% (367 people) of all respondents expressed anxiety about illegal filming, and the necessity and satisfaction with the Molka Security Guard were 73% (361 people), showing a proportional relationship between anxiety about illegal filming and expectations for the Molka Security Guard project.
The Seocho Molka Security Guard has been operating since August 2018 to ensure women's safety, alleviate anxiety about molka crimes, and prevent crimes by inspecting illegal filming devices in public and privately accessible restrooms, multi-use facilities, schools, and government offices with nine teams of two people each, receiving great responses.
Over the three years since 2018, the Seocho Molka Security Guard has inspected 9,715 buildings and 89,701 locations, including government offices by district, public institutions, public and private accessible restrooms, lodging facilities, and bathhouses.
Especially this year, despite COVID-19, they conducted comprehensive inspections of 148 public and private accessible restrooms, 58 elementary, middle, high, special, and universities within the district, and community service centers, and resumed inspections of multi-use facilities starting with government offices as social distancing was eased to level 1.
This year, the district introduced 10 video frequency detection devices, enhancing expertise by precisely inspecting areas that existing infrared and electromagnetic wave detectors could not recognize.
Accordingly, on the 5th and 6th, the district will conduct professional training and field practice for Seocho Molka Security Guards to improve their illegal filming device detection skills and share various case experiences. In response to increasingly diverse inspection requests, training will be conducted in a specialized training center equipped with facilities similar to actual sites such as restrooms, lodging facilities, conference rooms, and changing rooms, to cultivate accuracy and diversity in detection through simulation practice.
Additionally, the district annually conducts self-defense training for various situations and emergency treatment education such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation with the help of the Muay Thai Association to enable immediate response in emergencies on site. They also attach ‘No Molka’ stickers at the entrances of public accessible restrooms to block molka offenders' access, striving for preemptive crime prevention.
The district plans to expand the inspection target facilities next year to include registered academies, family-friendly companies, welfare facilities, and private buildings in the area, actively reflecting residents' requests to broaden the scope.
