Miryang City Museum, Special Exhibition '天文, Engraving the Principles of the Sky on Earth'
Highlighting the Excellence and Originality of Our Astronomical History
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Miryang City in Gyeongnam announced on the 3rd that it will hold the Miryang City Museum special exhibition "天文, Engraving the Principles of the Sky on the Earth" at the Miryang City Museum's planned exhibition hall until December 13.
This special exhibition was planned to commemorate the opening of the National Miryang Meteorological Science Museum and the Miryang Arirang Space Observatory. Although it has been on display since September 24, it was only after the adjustment to social distancing level 1 due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) that it became available to the general public.
This exhibition is also linked to the exhibition themes of the National Meteorological Science Museum and the Miryang Arirang Space Observatory located in Miryang Arirang Grand Park, along with the Miryang City Museum. The exhibition shows visitors to these integrated facilities the history of Korean astronomy and its scientific excellence.
In particular, this astronomy (天文) exhibition consists of over 100 astronomy-related artifacts and materials loaned from 13 institutions, including the Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido (Heavenly Chart), Angbuilgu (Sundial), Ilseong Jeongsui (Water Clock), Gani (Armillary Sphere), Gilt-bronze Astronomical Map, Donggwoldo (Painting of the Eastern Palaces), Yeongjo's Calligraphy Signboard, Goguryeo Tomb Murals, Honcheon Sigye (Armillary Clock), Chiljeongsan (Seven Star Calculation), and Ilwol Obongdo (Painting of the Sun, Moon, and Five Peaks). It comprehensively covers the history of Korean astronomy from prehistoric times to the modern era, making it expected to be an educationally valuable exhibition.

The exhibition is organized focusing on the originality and scientific nature of astronomical history. Our astronomical records serve as a global treasure trove of astronomy, providing many materials, and this exhibition will be a source of pride for future generations."
