Groundbreaking for the 7.4km Songpa Dullegil Tangcheon Section from Jangjicheon to Hangang
Songpa-gu Completes 21km Circular Waterfront Trail...Groundbreaking Ceremony for Tancheon Path Construction under Gwangpyeonggyo Bridge on the 4th, Scheduled for Completion in June 2021
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is completing the Songpa Dullegil, a circular waterfront walking trail, by starting construction on the previously unopened Tancheon section.
The district will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the ‘Tancheon Trail Construction Project’ on the 4th at the area beneath Gwangpyeonggyo Bridge over Tancheon.
Through this ceremony, a walking trail of approximately 3.5 km from Gwangpyeonggyo Bridge to Tancheon 2 Bridge will be created. This will connect the previously broken segment of the 7.4 km Songpa Dullegil, which is being developed in phases.
The district announced the creation of Songpa Dullegil as a key pledge of the 7th local government administration. In 2018, through the establishment of a basic plan, the route connecting Seongnaecheon, Jangjicheon, Tancheon, and the Han River flowing around the outskirts of Songpa-gu was finalized. The goal is to improve residents' quality of life through waterfront walking trails. Currently, various contents such as developing the Dullegil BI, creating photo zones, the Milky Way walking trail, specialized spaces, planting activation, and ecological program operations are underway.
However, among the four sections of Songpa Dullegil, the Tancheon section, the only one not yet opened, has caused much disappointment among local residents. Since the construction of the Tancheondong-ro automobile road, access to Tancheon has been difficult for people.
Also, as a natural urban stream and migratory bird habitat, Tancheon was designated as an ecological landscape conservation area in 2002, making it a treasure trove of ecosystems, but nearby residents lost the benefits of the green environment.
However, at the residents' briefing session held after the announcement of Songpa Dullegil construction, 83% expressed support for the creation of the Tancheon walking trail. Reflecting these residents' voices, the district submitted the agenda to the Green Seoul Citizens Committee, which was approved on October 30.
The construction of the Tancheon section of Songpa Dullegil will proceed in a way that maximally protects and utilizes the existing natural environment. While creating the walking trail, a buffer forest zone will be established between the streams to block the disturbance of the habitat of protected species such as the Black-faced Spoonbill, and additional native plants will be planted based on research and expert consultation.

A theme of coexistence between nature and humans will also be added. An ecological observation deck will be created to allow views of Tancheon, and storytelling and information boards conveying the value of Tancheon will be installed. Various ecological learning programs will be operated to raise residents' environmental awareness.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Residents have high expectations for the 7.4 km Tancheon trail connecting Jangjicheon and the Han River among the Songpa Dullegil sections,” adding, “We will complete a pedestrian-friendly circular waterfront walking trail connecting every corner of Songpa-gu to create a healing Dullegil in the city where nature and humans coexist.”
