Joo Ho-young: "Will Actively Manage the 4·3 Special Act"... Jeju Budget Policy Council Held
Won Hee-ryong "Request to Pass the 4·3 Special Act Amendment Within the Year"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, announced on the 2nd that he would actively cooperate on the passage of the April 3rd Special Act amendment and the construction of Jeju’s second airport.
At the People Power Party’s Jeju Budget Policy Meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Floor Leader Joo said, “We have arranged this meeting to hear opinions on items that must be reflected or increased in next year’s government budget and to offer any possible assistance.”
Floor Leader Joo stated, “The current government has shown a somewhat passive stance regarding Jeju’s second airport. The second airport is not only a long-cherished project but also a key infrastructure to promote Jeju’s growth, and the People Power Party shares this recognition with the residents of Jeju.” He added, “Since we expressed our intention to actively promote it as a party pledge in the last general election, we will actively consult with the government to ensure the airport construction proceeds in a timely manner.”
Floor Leader Joo said, “The special law for the investigation and restoration of honor related to the April 3rd Incident is currently under review, initiated by our party’s Representative Lee Myung-soo.” He continued, “We will actively ensure that the amendment faithfully includes the investigation and truth-finding regarding the innocent Jeju residents who were victims of unjust state violence, as well as appropriate restoration of honor and compensation.” Regarding the autonomous police system, Floor Leader Joo added, “We will gather opinions within the party and provide active support.”
Lee Jong-bae, chairman of the Policy Committee, emphasized, “As the COVID-19 pandemic prolongs, Jeju, where tourism accounts for a very large portion of the economy, is severely affected.” He stressed, “We will seek measures to revitalize Jeju’s local economy and actively support the necessary budget.”
