KOSPI Closes Below 2260, Down Over 2%... KOSDAQ Retreats to 700 Level
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI closed above the 2260 mark, falling more than 2% due to simultaneous selling by foreigners and institutions. The KOSDAQ index also declined, dropping to the 700 level.
On the 30th, the KOSPI closed at 2267.15, down 59.52 points (2.56%) from the previous day. The KOSPI started the day lower, and in the afternoon, the decline widened, falling below the 2300 level. It failed to reverse afterward and ended the week at the 2260 level with an increased loss.
Looking at trading trends by participant, foreign investors and institutional investors led the decline by net selling 997.7 billion KRW and 459.5 billion KRW, respectively. In contrast, individual investors net bought 1.4147 trillion KRW.
By sector, transportation equipment (-3.56%), chemicals (-3.41%), transportation and warehousing (-3.11%), pharmaceuticals (-2.90%), and medical precision (-2.72%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, most fell. LG Chem (-6.14%), Hyundai Mobis (-5.25%), Celltrion (-4.74%), Kia Motors (-4.72%), Kakao (-3.79%), and Hyundai Motor (-3.24%) experienced relatively large declines. Meanwhile, Samsung SDI rose by 2.43%.
In the KOSPI market that day, including two stocks that hit the upper limit, 123 stocks rose, 753 stocks fell without any hitting the lower limit, and 31 stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index also fell more than 2%, dropping to the 700 level. The KOSDAQ index started the day higher but soon reversed to a decline and failed to turn upward again, closing the week at 792.65, down 21.28 points (2.61%) from the previous trading day.
Regarding trading trends by participant, similar to the KOSPI, foreign investors and institutional investors net sold 292.9 billion KRW and 101 billion KRW, respectively, while individual investors net bought 406.9 billion KRW.
By sector, distribution (-3.90%), paper and wood (-3.25%), broadcasting services (-3.16%), and pharmaceuticals (-3.15%) declined.
Most of the top market capitalization stocks in the KOSDAQ market also fell. Genexine (-6.40%), Alteogen (-5.72%), SK Materials (-5.04%), and Celltrion Healthcare (-5.04%) all dropped more than 5%. Kakao Games rose slightly by 1.23%.
