At the meeting, four local leaders including Provincial Party Chairman and National Assembly member Kim Jeong-ho (Gimhae-eul), Geoje Mayor Byeon Gwang-yong, Tongyeong Mayor Kang Seok-ju, and Goseong County Governor Baek Du-hyun attended to discuss major regional issues such as mutual development in the Gyeongnam area.
Mayor Heo shared four key Changwon city administrative issues related to the attending local governments through the meeting: ▲ Request for extension of the designation of Jinhae-gu as an employment crisis area and reconsideration of the reform of the local investment promotion subsidy support system ▲ Designation of Changwon National Industrial Complex as a specialized complex for advanced machinery materials, parts, and equipment ▲ Attraction of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Changwon branch.
The discussion began with the extension of the employment crisis area designation. In Gyeongnam Province, there are four employment crisis areas: Jinhae-gu in Changwon City, Tongyeong City, Geoje City, and Goseong County. When designated as an employment crisis area, support is strengthened for alleviating workers' livelihood burdens, expanding opportunities for reemployment and vocational training, maintaining employment through support for business owners, and creating local jobs. The designation period for the four employment crisis areas in the province is set to expire at the end of this year.
Mayor Heo explained that although the designation period for Jinhae-gu as an employment crisis area was extended once earlier this year as a response to employment uncertainties and regional economic recovery due to the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the global supply and demand network has effectively collapsed.
In addition, discussions continued on policy support for the 'reform of the local investment promotion subsidy support system' currently underway following the decision of the National Balanced Development Committee in July, the designation of the Changwon National Industrial Complex as a specialized complex for advanced machinery materials, parts, and equipment, and the attraction of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Changwon branch.
