Jin Jeong-seok: "Next Year's Seoul and Busan By-Elections Should Be Named 'Sexual Harassment By-Elections'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Jeong Jin-seok, a member of the People Power Party, said, "Let's name next year's Seoul and Busan mayoral by-elections as the 'Sexual Harassment By-elections'." This is interpreted as a criticism of the Democratic Party of Korea, which intends to field candidates in the by-elections through party member voting.
On the 30th, Jeong said on Facebook, "Let's outright name the Seoul and Busan mayoral by-elections on April 7 next year as the 'Sexual Harassment By-elections'."
Earlier, Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party, stated, "It is a responsible duty to be judged through candidate nomination," and announced that the decision on whether to nominate candidates would be made through party member voting. This reverses the party's rules that no candidates would be nominated if the election was caused by sexual harassment or similar reasons.

In response, the People Power Party poured out criticism. Deputy spokesperson Hwang Gyu-hwan also pointed out in a statement the day before, "Is this why the requests for the adoption of witnesses related to former Mayors Park Won-soon and Oh Keo-don at the National Assembly inspection were so thoroughly ignored by the Women and Family Committee?" He criticized, "The Democratic Party's behavior of trying to package the will of party members as if it were the will of the people is cowardly."
