Gyeongbuk Office of Education Hosts English Camp for Rural Elementary Schools... "Increasing Interest Through Play Activities"
Since April, 48 Schools Selected for Monthly Budget Support of 2 to 5 Million KRW Each
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education announced on the 29th that it is receiving positive responses by operating English camps at elementary schools in rural and underserved areas to reduce the English proficiency gap between urban and rural areas.
Since April, a budget of 2 to 5 million KRW per school has been provided to 48 selected elementary schools through a public contest. These schools are strengthening the quality of English education through various experience-based activities.
Pohang Haemaji Elementary School runs an "English Drama" program, Andong Sinseong Elementary School offers "Into the Real World," Gumi Dobong Elementary School has "Show Your Story," Yeongcheon Jacheon Elementary School conducts "Action Reading," Gyeongsan Wachon Elementary School teaches "Phonics Using Chopstick Games," and Uiseong Chunsan Elementary School features the "Bomb Game" as their learning catchphrases.
English play and experiential activities through the English camps are evaluated to increase students' interest in English and provide opportunities for students to study independently.
Choi Won-ah, Director of Educational Welfare at the Provincial Office of Education, stated, "Considering the reality of many rural schools in Gyeongbuk with low English accessibility, we will expand English experiential activities and also research non-face-to-face English activities in preparation for the post-COVID era."
