[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Simmons, a sleep specialty brand, announced on the 29th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Firefighters Welfare Foundation to promote firefighters' welfare and activate fire safety in daily life, donating flame-retardant mattresses and bed frame sets worth 100 million KRW. This is the second act of goodwill following last year's support of flame-retardant mattresses and bed frame sets of the same value to fire stations nationwide.
The Korea Firefighters Welfare Foundation, established in 2015, is an organization dedicated to contributing to a safe and healthy society by enhancing the rights and welfare of current and former firefighters, volunteer firefighters, and those working in the firefighting field, as well as raising public awareness of safety culture.
On the 28th, Simmons Bed held a signing ceremony for the MOU at its headquarters in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, attended by Ahn Jeong-ho, CEO of Simmons Bed, and Lee Ji-min, Chairman of the Korea Firefighters Welfare Foundation. Through this agreement, both parties plan to actively engage in ▲various supports to improve firefighters' welfare ▲the creation of a fire safety culture in daily life and the establishment of related systems.
As part of the agreement, Simmons Bed will sequentially deliver flame-retardant mattresses and bed frame sets worth 100 million KRW to fire stations and firefighting schools nationwide based on a demand survey conducted by the Korea Firefighters Welfare Foundation.
The flame-retardant mattress, developed and sold exclusively by Korea Simmons, applies a new material called 'Maximum Safety Padding,' which is resistant to fire and, even if ignited, slowly extinguishes naturally. This helps prevent 'flashover,' a phenomenon where the entire indoor space is explosively engulfed in flames during a fire, thereby ensuring the safety of firefighters engaged in fire suppression and rescue operations and securing the golden time for occupants to evacuate.
Recognizing this fire safety feature, Simmons Bed obtained a patent for the 'mattress with flame-retardant properties' from the Korean Intellectual Property Office in August. To date, Korea Simmons Bed is the only brand in the country that has developed and launched flame-retardant mattresses for all general household mattresses that meet both the international standard ISO 12949 and the domestic standard test method KS F ISO 12949.
