The Export-Import Bank of Korea announced that President Bang visited Vinatek, located in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, on the morning of the 28th to listen to the difficulties faced by the related industry.
Vinatek is a company that produces medium-sized super capacitors, a type of energy storage device, holding about 20% of the global market share in this sector. This storage device stores a large amount of electricity at once and releases it instantaneously as needed. It is used in devices requiring rapid charging and discharging and is emerging as a complementary product to secondary batteries. Vinatek is also engaged in the hydrogen fuel cell materials and components business, which directly converts power through electrochemical reactions between hydrogen fuel and oxygen in the air.
Seong Do-kyung, CEO of Vinatek, said at the meeting, "Along with super capacitors, a key component of the Korean New Deal, we expect a significant increase in global demand for core materials of hydrogen fuel cells such as supports, catalysts, and MEA." He added, "To continuously develop technology and invest in facilities for market preemption and competitiveness enhancement, active financial support from the Export-Import Bank is necessary." MEA (Membrane Electrode Assembly) is a film-type assembly in hydrogen fuel cells that induces the chemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen to convert it into electrical energy.
In response, President Bang said, "To promote the globalization of New Deal industries by securing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, we will spare no comprehensive support to ensure that companies receive timely and smooth funding for research and development (R&D), facility investment funds, operating funds necessary for exports, and overseas investment funds required for overseas market development."
