Ruling and opposition parties take turns visiting Honam with 'love calls'... Kim Jong-in and Lee Nak-yeon to visit Honam
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The ruling and opposition parties are taking turns sending 'love calls' to Honam. Kim Jong-in, the Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, and Lee Nak-yeon, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, are both visiting Honam.
On the 29th, the People Power Party announced on the 28th that Chairman Kim and the National Assembly members accompanying him from Jeonbuk would visit the Jeonbuk Provincial Council.
Around 2 p.m., they will hold a press conference at the Jeonbuk Provincial Council briefing room, then visit the Jeonbuk Provincial Government to discuss policies with basic local government heads, and around 5 p.m., they will visit the Korea Carbon Convergence Technology Institute. Jeonbuk Governor Song Ha-jin is also expected to attend this event.
The People Power Party has recently been frequently sending love calls to Honam, including on the 27th when floor leader Joo Ho-young and other floor leadership visited Gwangju to express their commitment to securing national budget for the Honam region. Last month, they held the 'Honam Accompanying National Assembly Members Launch Ceremony,' where some People Power Party lawmakers established a 'second constituency' in Honam.

The Democratic Party plans to hold a Supreme Council meeting on the 30th in Gwangju, gathering party leaders including Lee Nak-yeon, floor leader Kim Tae-nyeon, and Secretary-General Park Kwang-on to address regional issues. This on-site Supreme Council meeting was originally scheduled for the 4th of next month but was moved up by five days, seemingly to counter the People Power Party's pro-Honam moves.
