Jeonnam Fire Department, Making Traditional Markets Safe in Winter 'All-Out Effort'
Promotion of Fire Prevention Measures Including Expansion of Visible Fire Extinguisher Installation
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) is actively promoting fire prevention measures to create traditional markets safe from winter fires.
According to Jeonnam Fire Headquarters on the 28th, among 15 traditional market fires in the province over the past five years, six occurred during the winter season (November to February), resulting in damages amounting to 1.68 billion KRW.
Accordingly, Jeonnam Fire will implement safety measures to create safe traditional markets by expanding the installation of 'visible fire extinguishers,' conducting joint special fire inspections with related organizations, and strengthening safety management of residential facilities within markets, targeting 114 traditional markets in the province during the winter season.
Jeonnam Fire has installed a total of 2,035 'visible fire extinguishers' in all traditional markets up to now.
During this winter season, an additional 986 units will be installed, and management numbers and labels will be attached to the extinguishers to improve the initial fire response environment.
In particular, through joint inspections with related organizations such as construction, electricity, and gas, fire facility maintenance and management status and fire vulnerability factors such as aging wiring will be preemptively checked, and safety management of residential facilities within the markets will be strengthened.
Additionally, to strengthen voluntary safety management centered on market stakeholders, the following will be promoted: ▲ virtual fire response training centered on merchants ▲ enhanced preventive patrols during vulnerable hours ▲ attachment of safety confirmation stickers per household ▲ clearing of stalls on fire truck access roads and color marking by section ▲ fire prevention publicity for the use of electrical appliances.
