The project, which utilized idle solar power from the company building to provide free electric vehicle charging services to local residents, was highly evaluated.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced the results of the '2020 Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Public Institution Innovation Best Practice Competition' for 40 affiliated public institutions on the 27th.
The competition, held for the first time this year, was organized to introduce cases where public institutions voluntarily innovated public services for the people despite the difficult situation caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
About 400 cases were submitted over approximately one month from public institutions under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. After evaluation by a private judging panel composed of experts such as professors and researchers in related fields, a total of seven best practices were selected.
Korea Gas Corporation's 'Green Energy Sharing Charging Service' won the Grand Prize. The company provided a service that allowed residents to charge electric vehicles for free using solar power. This was evaluated as a case that achieved both environmental preservation and regional coexistence.
Two free charging stations were provided during peak power generation hours on weekends and holidays (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Through this service, if up to 16 electric vehicles charge their batteries from 20% to 80% per day, up to 1,904 vehicles can be charged annually.
The Excellence Awards were given to ▲ Korea South-East Power's 'Revitalization of the Local Economy through an Eco-friendly Smart Land-based Aquaculture Cluster' (Participation and Social Value category), ▲ KOTRA's 'Emergency Import Support for Core Raw Materials (MB Filters) to Stabilize Mask Supply' (Collaboration category), and ▲ Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement's 'One-stop Support for Regulatory Sandbox' (Administrative Innovation category).
Additionally, Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (Participation and Social Value category), Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (Collaboration category), and Korea Gas Safety Corporation (Administrative Innovation category) each received Encouragement Awards.
