Life Respect Education Conducted for Youth in Jungnang-gu
Life Respect Education "See, Hear, and Speak" for Local Middle and High School Students to be Held Until December 11
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is conducting life respect education titled ‘See, Listen, and Speak’.
The district operates the life respect education ‘See, Listen, and Speak’ targeting middle and high school students in the area to promote the importance of respecting life and to improve awareness about suicide.
‘See, Listen, and Speak’ implies carefully observing to quickly recognize high-risk groups for suicide, actively listening to identify suicide risk, and preventing suicide through communication.
Through this life respect education, the district plans to nurture youth life guardians who will care for the mental health of their friends, enable early detection and connection regarding suicide, and spread a culture of respecting life.
The main educational content includes ▲ recognizing verbal, behavioral, and situational signals of suicide risk (See) ▲ listening to and asking about the reasons of those expressing suicidal thoughts (Listen) ▲ confirming the risk of those considering suicide and referring them to professionals (Speak).
In particular, this education is designed as a program that enhances the internal coping ability of the trainees and allows them to look after themselves as well as those around them, making it a valuable experience.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, this youth life respect education is conducted for small groups for about one hour and is available only to schools that apply by December 11. Depending on the situation, it will be conducted either as in-person lectures or real-time online lectures.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I hope this education will provide a meaningful time for local youth to think about respecting life,” and added, “We will continue to promote various programs and education so that young people can recognize the preciousness of life and the importance of mental health.”
