Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Goes All Out to Support Examinees Preparing for Non-Face-to-Face Early Admission Interviews
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is making every effort to support high school seniors and out-of-school youth preparing for the 2021 university early admission interviews.
Considering the difficulties of providing close, on-site interview guidance at schools due to COVID-19 and the introduction of the first 'non-face-to-face interviews' by many universities in the Seoul metropolitan area and Honam region, a support plan for early admission interview preparation has been established.
According to the Gwangju Office of Education on the 26th, the Gwangju College Admission Heads Council held a 'Non-face-to-face Program for Honam Region University Early Admission Interview Preparation' on the 24th for high school seniors taking early admission interviews at universities in the Honam region.
About 70 high school seniors who wished to participate in the program received interview lectures, mock interviews, and one-on-one feedback using a platform capable of video consultations.
Shin Heedon, chairman of the Gwangju College Admission Heads Council, said, "In fact, many of our Gwangju high school seniors apply to universities in the Honam region, but the interview dates for Honam universities are earlier than those in the Seoul metropolitan area, causing difficulties in preparation. We will do our best as all teachers participating as interviewers to help students reveal their potential without nervousness even in the newly introduced non-face-to-face interviews."
In addition, as a support measure for out-of-school youth preparing for early admission interviews, a 'Visiting University Admission Counselor Interview Consulting for Out-of-School Youth in Gwangju' will be conducted in cooperation with the Out-of-School Youth Support Center until the 30th.
The Gwangju Office of Education also hired a university admission counselor, an admissions expert with experience as an admissions officer, for the first time last year.
The admission counselor provides consulting, face-to-face mock interviews, and one-on-one interview feedback based on pre-recorded videos submitted by out-of-school youth who lack interview preparation, utilizing years of evaluation experience accumulated at universities.
Additionally, the 'Bitgoeul Road 2021 Early Admission Interview Preparation Guide,' which can also be used for interviews at Seoul metropolitan area universities, was produced and distributed to general high schools in Gwangju in early October.
The Gwangju Career and College Admission Support Group produced and distributed materials for Honam region university interview preparation to all third-year general high school department heads in Gwangju in mid-October, and the college counseling team teachers of the group plan to visit several schools this month to provide one-on-one consulting to about 120 students preparing for Honam region university interviews.
Moreover, efforts are being made not only to support student interview programs but also to strengthen teachers' college guidance capabilities at each school and to establish a solid college guidance support system through the integration of 'curriculum, instruction, evaluation, and records.'
The '2020 General High School College Admission Support Consulting Second Half Bitgoeul Platform (online and offline)' will provide 24 lectures to teachers from 15 schools until the 27th of next month.
Unlike the first half program conducted at schools for teachers, parents, and students, the second half will operate in a modular format that offers school-customized, voluntary capacity-building lectures for teachers who wish to participate.
To this end, 14 committee members, including team leader-level teachers from the Gwangju Career and College Admission Support Group, the chairman of the Gwangju College Admission Heads Council, and Lee Seokrok, former director of the admissions office at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and well-known EBS CSAT Korean representative lecturer, were appointed.
