Jeong Eui-seon Visits Lee Kun-hee's Funeral Hall: "He Instilled the Spirit of Being Number One in Korea... Grateful and Saddened"
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Chung Euisun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, visited the funeral hall of Lee Kun-hee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, on the morning of the 26th to express his condolences.
Arriving at the Samsung Seoul Hospital funeral hall around 11 a.m., Chairman Chung told reporters, "It is regrettable that such a great person has passed away," and added, "I am grateful for how he strongly instilled a number one spirit in every sector of our country's economy."
Chairman Chung also expressed positive expectations regarding changes in Samsung Group under the future 'Lee Jae-yong regime.' He said, "I expect there will be significant positive changes in various ways." Reflecting on his memories with Chairman Lee, he recalled, "I always remember how warmly he treated me."
Chairman Lee passed away peacefully at the age of 78 the previous day at Seoul Samsung Hospital in Irwon-dong, Seoul. Although Samsung stated that the funeral would be quietly held as a family ceremony according to the wishes of the deceased and the bereaved family, visits from political and business figures continued for paying respects.
On the same day, following the visit of CEOs from major Samsung Group affiliates and Chairman Chung to the funeral hall for mourning, it is expected that condolences from the heads of the four major conglomerates, including SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, will continue in the afternoon. It is also reported that Presidential Chief of Staff Noh Young-min and Senior Secretary for Economic Affairs Lee Ho-seung visited the funeral hall around 7 a.m. to deliver a message from the President.
