Gyeonggi-do's 'Illegal Occupation Crackdown on Rivers and Valleys'... Selected as Top Policy for 2 Consecutive Years
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung's policy of 'Crackdown on Illegal Occupation of Rivers and Valleys' was selected as the best policy by Gyeonggi Province residents for the second consecutive year.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that a survey conducted from the 21st to the 25th of last month targeting 1,000 residents aged 18 and older showed that 23% of all respondents chose 'Crackdown on Illegal Occupation of Rivers and Valleys' as the most successful activity this year. The crackdown on illegal river activities also ranked first with 21% in a survey conducted last September.
Since June last year, the province has detected 11,690 illegal facilities in 204 rivers and valleys within the province through the 'Clean Valley and River Restoration Project,' and has demolished 11,593 of them, currently showing a restoration rate of 99.2%.
Residents also gave high marks to the special judicial police's achievements in environmental pollution crackdowns (16%) and food crime crackdowns (13%).
As for areas needing expanded crackdowns in the future, respondents pointed to ▲ environmental pollution crackdowns (24%) ▲ real estate crackdowns (14%) ▲ food crime crackdowns (13%).
Cross-analysis of the special judicial police's activity areas between 'achievement areas' and 'areas needing expansion' showed that the top priority future crackdown areas were ▲ real estate ▲ environmental pollution ▲ food crime, in that order.
Most residents also evaluated the overall activities of the special judicial police positively.
Sixty-five percent of residents rated the special judicial police's activities as 'doing well.' Eighty-eight percent said that 'the special judicial police's activities will help create a safe life for residents and a fair Gyeonggi Province.' Opinions supporting further expansion and strengthening of the special judicial police reached 85%.
Regarding the disclosure of statistics on livelihood crimes such as crime occurrence and criminal status by the special judicial police, 89% of residents responded positively, saying it would be 'helpful.'
Regarding the investigation of illegal activities at sea, which is being promoted to create a clean Gyeonggi Province sea, 93% overwhelmingly responded that it was a 'well-made decision.'
Forty percent of residents reported having heard of the special judicial police's activities. The most well-known crackdown activity was 'Crackdown on Illegal Occupation of Rivers and Valleys' (77%).
Meanwhile, since the launch of the 7th local government, Gyeonggi Province has significantly increased the organization and personnel of the special judicial police, expanded and strengthened crackdown areas, and holds investigative authority over 108 laws, the most among 14 metropolitan local governments nationwide.

Inchi Kwon, head of the Gyeonggi Province Livelihood Special Judicial Police, said, "This survey well reflects residents' positive evaluation of the activities and efforts of the Gyeonggi Province special judicial police," adding, "We will further strengthen crackdowns in areas of high interest to residents to create a safer and fairer society."
