Saudi-led Coalition Intercepts 3 Explosive Drones from Yemen's Houthi Rebels
Houthi Rebels Target Three Sites Including Jizan with Aramco Oil Facilities
[Asia Economy International Department Reporter] The Saudi Arabia-led Arab coalition forces shot down three explosive-laden drones of the Yemeni Houthi rebels, according to Saudi state-run SPA news agency and other major foreign media on the 24th (local time).
In this regard, a spokesperson for the Houthi rebels stated on Twitter that they targeted Saudi's Jizan and Abha airports, as well as the Khamis Mushait base.
Jizan, located about 60 km north of the Yemen border, houses the refining facilities of Saudi state oil company Aramco. Khamis Mushait and Abha, which the rebels claimed as targets, are also border cities in southern Saudi Arabia close to Yemen.
Military spokesperson Yahya Saree said, "The strike was precise," presenting a stance contrary to Saudi Arabia.
He also told Al Masirah TV, operated by the Houthi rebels, that the attack was "a response to the blockade imposed by the Saudi-led coalition forces on the Yemeni people," according to China's Xinhua News Agency.
The Iran-backed Islamic Shia Houthi rebels have recently attacked Saudi civilian facilities across the border using drones or missiles.
However, most of the drone and missile attacks are reported to have been intercepted by the Saudi coalition forces.
In southwestern Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula, since the full-scale outbreak of civil war in 2015, clashes have continued between the Yemeni government led by President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and the Houthis.
