US Reports Over 70,000 New COVID-19 Cases in a Single Day
Highest Death Toll in Three Months Since July... Warning of Additional 280,000 Deaths
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The number of new daily COVID-19 cases in the United States has exceeded 70,000 again for the first time in three months.
CNN reported on the 23rd that on the 22nd (local time), the number of new daily COVID-19 cases in the U.S. was counted at 71,671, surpassing 70,000 for the first time in three months.
This is the highest figure in three months since July 24, when there were 73,107 cases, and it is the fourth highest number of new daily cases recorded.
The highest number of new daily cases in the U.S. so far was on July 16, with 77,362 cases.
According to the COVID-19 Tracking Project, the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations nationwide on the 22nd was about 41,000, the highest since August 20. Hospitalizations have increased by 33% since the 1st of this month.
Additionally, eight states including Kentucky, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Wyoming set new records for hospitalizations on that day.
As the number of deaths also increased, 856 deaths were recorded on the 22nd. The seven-day average daily deaths continued to rise, reaching 763, the highest in a month.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington Medical School projected that COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. could exceed 500,000 by the end of February next year. This is a warning that an additional 280,000 deaths could occur.
