Gimcheon City Throws EM Mud Balls into Seokjeongcheon to Combat Algal Bloom... Organized by Yulgok-dong Women's Association
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 20th, Gimcheon City in Gyeongbuk announced on the 21st that the Yulgok-dong Saemaeul Women's Association (President Lee Seo-hyun) held an event to throw EM (Effective Microorganisms) soil balls into Seokjeongcheon to alleviate green algae phenomena.
Recently, due to decreased rainfall, the water quality in Seokjeongcheon, Yulgok-dong, has rapidly deteriorated with the occurrence of green algae. Accordingly, the women's association members made soil balls full of beneficial microorganisms after a 2-3 month drying process to practice the Yulgokcheon revitalization movement, according to Gimcheon City.
The Yulgok-dong women's association also held two soil ball throwing events in September at Yulgokcheon and reservoirs located in Yulgok-dong. EM soil balls are made by mixing loess and natural fermented liquid into balls and fermenting them. Containing yeast and other microbial components, they effectively remove sedimented substances and various pollutants from the polluted riverbed, improving water quality and eliminating odors.
