Lee Jae-myung: "I met Chaedonguk because I was told he could help with my political standing"

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seul-gi] Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung explained the reason he met with former Prosecutor General Chae Dong-wook, who was an advisor to Optimus at the time, in May, saying, "He wanted to help me, so he suggested we meet and talk together."
On the 20th, during the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee’s audit held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office, Governor Lee said, "It wasn’t former Prosecutor General Chae, but other people who suggested meeting together, so we met."
When Kim Eun-hye, a member of the People Power Party, asked, "Who first proposed the meal with former Prosecutor General Chae?" Governor Lee added, "Since there was a trial at the time (regarding charges of false statements under the Public Official Election Act), I was suggested to meet because they could help with my personal matters and political standing."
When Representative Kim asked, "Was there any mention of Optimus at that meeting?" Governor Lee explained, "I have never heard of it at all. To my recollection, there was none. If I had heard anything, I would have informed the staff and the director, but there was no such discussion."
Earlier, Governor Lee was embroiled in allegations that he received a request related to the Gwangju Bonghyeon logistics complex project when he met former Prosecutor General Chae in May this year.

However, Governor Lee claimed, "We talked about all sorts of trivial things for hours, how could I remember everything?" and insisted, "I have never heard anything about Optimus, and to my recollection, there was no mention of the Bonghyeon logistics complex."
