Assemblyman Song Gap-seok: "Honam Region Low-NOx Burner Support Project Ranks 'Lowest Nationwide'"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] It has been confirmed that the Honam region ranks among the lowest nationwide in the Korea Gas Corporation's low-NOx burner support project.
According to the 'Budget and Support Status for Low-NOx Burners in the Last Two Years' submitted by Korea Gas Corporation to Assemblyman Song Gap-seok (Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangju Seo-gu Gap) on the 20th, the Honam region was allocated 283 million KRW in the low-NOx burner installation support project, which was promoted to reduce the economic burden on small and medium-sized enterprises facing financial difficulties. This accounts for 7.5%, placing it among the lowest ranks.
A low-NOx burner is equipment that suppresses the generation of nitrogen oxides (NOx), a major cause of fine dust. Recently, as regulations on nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide have been strengthened worldwide, this equipment has been gaining popularity.
Since September last year, Korea Gas Corporation has been providing financial support for replacing general burners installed in existing boilers and drying facilities with low-NOx burners and is responsible for budget allocation in each region.
After the project started last year, the region that received the most support was the metropolitan area, which received 2.267 billion KRW, accounting for 60.1% of the total budget of 3.775 billion KRW.
The Yeongnam region received 21.6% (815 million KRW), the Chungcheong region 8% (320 million KRW), and the Gangwon-Jeju region 2.8% (106 million KRW), in that order.
In particular, the Honam region received only 7.5% (283 million KRW), ranking just above the Gangwon-Jeju region in terms of the least support.
In the budget of the Ministry of Environment, which is conducting the same project, the Honam region also recorded the lowest support, receiving only 720 million KRW out of a total of 14.3 billion KRW. During the same period, the metropolitan area received 9.13 billion KRW (63.7%).

Assemblyman Song said, “As air pollution, including fine dust, has recently worsened, interest in low-NOx burners among small and medium-sized enterprises has greatly increased,” and added, “Since support for low-NOx burner installation in the metropolitan area has been implemented since 2008, support should be expanded to non-metropolitan areas as well.”
