[Breaking News] 'Tritium' Emission from Fukushima Discharge... Concerns over DNA Damage
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Ju-hyung] As the Japanese government is expected to finalize its plan to discharge radioactive contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean on the 27th of this month, concerns are growing about how radioactive substances might affect the human body.
Japan claims to have purified the radioactive contaminated water using equipment called the Advanced Liquid Processing System (ALPS), but it is known that 'tritium' was not removed, drawing attention to the dangers of tritium. Hydrogen and deuterium are not radioactive substances, but tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen.

Japan lacks effective technology to remove tritium, so it could not be treated even with ALPS. If radioactive contaminated water is discharged into the ocean as is, the tritium in the contaminated water will also disperse into the sea.
