The man reportedly took out and scattered 200,000 yuan (about 34 million won) in cash, which he had been keeping for home interior expenses, while in a hallucinatory state after inhaling drugs.
On Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, a video was released showing a crowded street with people trying to pick up the 100-yuan bills scattered by the man.
Chinese police, who received the report, have urgently arrested the man on suspicion of drug use and are investigating him.
