Boseong-gun Launches 'Free Flu Vaccination for All Residents' - First in the Nation at County Level
[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] As autumn approaches, Boseong-gun's administration is moving swiftly to prevent the spread of influenza in advance, along with the risk of COVID-19.
The "Boseong-gun Free Influenza Vaccination for All Residents," the first of its kind at the county level, officially began on the 19th at local medical institutions and health centers.
According to Boseong-gun on the 19th, after announcing on the 9th of last month that the influenza vaccination target would be expanded to all residents, the county allocated 350 million KRW for vaccine purchase in the second supplementary budget.
Additionally, the county enacted the "Boseong-gun Ordinance on Support for Optional Vaccinations" for free influenza vaccinations, completing administrative procedures with its promulgation on the 29th of last month.
With the entire administration working organically to prepare for free vaccinations, Boseong-gun did not give up despite difficulties such as the failure of competitive vaccine bidding and the national vaccine room temperature exposure incident, securing vaccines for 15,000 general adults.
Although vaccine procurement was completed earlier this month, careful administration was maintained by adjusting the schedule for general adults to prioritize vaccinations for children, the elderly, and other vulnerable health groups.
A county official stated, “Since the number of vaccinations per doctor conducting preliminary examinations is limited to 100 per day, it is necessary to confirm the available vaccination dates through phone reservation counseling before visiting medical institutions. When receiving vaccinations at health centers, it is essential to check the schedule for each village before visiting,” adding, “We will do our best to create a safe vaccination environment.”
County Governor Kim Cheol-woo said, “If the population aged 19 to 61, who are working very hard for the development of our county, do not receive influenza vaccinations, there could be significant confusion in quarantine measures when COVID-19 and influenza spread simultaneously in winter. Therefore, we expanded free vaccinations to all residents so that citizens can continue their work and daily lives with peace of mind,” and added, “I hope that through influenza vaccinations, residents can have a healthy winter.”
