Proposing Sponsorship and Sexual Relations... Also Threatening to Distribute Illegal Videos
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A man in his 20s who approached a woman by proposing to introduce a sponsor, pretended to be a sponsor, engaged in sexual relations, and threatened to distribute illegal recordings has been handed over to the prosecution.
On the 19th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that they had sent Mr. A, who is accused of fraud and threats, to the prosecution without detention at the end of last month with a recommendation for indictment.
Earlier this year, Mr. A contacted Ms. B, a woman in her 20s who was the victim, on social networking services (SNS), introducing himself as a sponsor intermediary and saying, "I will arrange for you to meet someone who can give you 60 million won per month."
Mr. A pretended to be a sponsor, had sexual relations, and then cut off contact claiming there was a problem with the mediation. However, around April, he approached Ms. B again from a different account, citing the sponsor connection as a reason. When Ms. B did not respond, he threatened, "I have a video of the sexual encounter filmed at a motel in January, and I will distribute it." Mr. A was caught by the police following Ms. B's report.

During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that he "copied a method circulating on the internet." The method of threatening with illegal recordings is similar to that used by Cho Ju-bin (25), the operator of the Telegram "Baksa Bang." A police official said, "The prosecution is investigating whether there are additional victims and other related crimes."
