COVID-19 New Cases 76 Yesterday... Double Digits for Four Consecutive Days (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] On the 19th, the newly confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were counted at 76. As additional patients continue to emerge due to cluster outbreaks in hospitals in the Seoul metropolitan area and Busan, the number of cases has remained below 100 for four consecutive days recently.

According to the domestic status compiled by the Central Disease Control Headquarters as of 0:00 on the day, 50 cases are presumed to be from domestic community infections, and 26 cases are imported from overseas. It has been a week since social distancing was lowered to level 1, and the daily new confirmed cases have maintained double digits except for one day on the 15th. On the 15th, 110 new cases were confirmed in one day due to multiple new patients emerging from a nursing hospital in Busan.

By region, Seoul reported 14 cases (including 3 imported cases, hereinafter the same), Busan 15 cases (1 imported), and Gyeonggi 18 cases (3 imported), with additional new cases emerging in areas where hospital-related cluster infections occurred. Incheon confirmed 5 cases, and Gwangju, Daejeon, Chungnam, and Gyeongbuk each confirmed 2 cases. Regarding imported cases, 15 were from Asia (excluding China), 7 from Europe, 3 from the Americas, and 1 from Africa. Among these, 12 cases were detected during quarantine, and the remaining 14 were found in the community.

The number of critically ill patients increased by 1 from the previous day to 78. There were no deaths yesterday, keeping the total domestic death toll at 444, unchanged from the day before. The total number of confirmed cases in the country is 25,275, and the number of patients currently isolated and receiving treatment is 1,463, slightly up from the previous day.
