The Story Behind 40 Korean Startups Appearing at a Finland Exhibition
Startup Academic Conference 'Slush 2020' Opens K-Startup Pavilion
40 Domestic Startups Participate... Online Booths Operate from October 19 to November 13
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The 'K-Startup Pavilion,' which gathers domestic startups in one place at overseas startup exhibitions, will be held for the first time. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Park Young-sun, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry) announced that the K-Startup Pavilion will be established for four weeks from October 19 to November 13 at SLUSH 2020, Finland's largest startup conference in Europe.
SLUSH, which started in 2008, is a representative European startup event where startups and investors from around the world gather. Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), this year it will be held entirely online. Last year, it was held offline over two days, but considering this year's online format, it is scheduled to run for about two and a half months from September 22 to December 3. Since it is held online, it is expected to be an opportunity to showcase the innovation and technological capabilities of domestic startups to buyers and visitors worldwide beyond Europe, which has mainly participated in SLUSH so far, and to create new business opportunities.
Until now, when participating in overseas startup exhibitions, there was no single pavilion gathering domestic startups, and company booths were scattered by local governments or institutions, which diminished promotional effects and caused some regret. This time, the K-Startup Pavilion, which gathers domestic startups in one place, will be installed for the first time at SLUSH, so promotional effects are expected to be further maximized. A total of 40 domestic startups will participate in the K-Startup Pavilion, selected through five supporting organizations including the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development and Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy & Innovation.
The selected startups will create individual online booths within the K-Startup Pavilion set up in the online exhibition hall operated by SLUSH, posting digital content such as company introductions and videos. Through this, companies are expected to promote their high-level innovative technologies to the world and further have opportunities to attract investment by networking with buyers, venture capitalists, and others.
