Park Yoochun "Only 1 Million Won in Bank Account"... Controversy Over Ignoring Compensation to Sexual Assault Accuser
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] It has been confirmed that singer and actor Park Yoo-chun (34) has not complied for over a year with a court order to compensate 50 million won to complainant A, who filed a second report claiming he was sexually assaulted by Park.
On the 16th, Lee Eun-ui, A's attorney, sent a certified letter to Park yesterday warning him. The letter demanded immediate repayment of the debt and stated that if Park does not clarify his position by the 25th, a criminal complaint will be filed.
Previously, in 2016, A accused Park of detaining and raping her in the restroom of a Seoul entertainment bar in 2015, but Park was not prosecuted following the investigation. Subsequently, A was tried for false accusation but was acquitted by the Supreme Court on the grounds that her accusation against Park was not groundless.
Having been cleared of charges, A filed a lawsuit against Park in December 2018 seeking 100 million won in damages.
Later, in July of last year, the Seoul Court Mediation Center issued a compulsory mediation decision in the damages lawsuit filed by A against Park. According to this, Park must pay A 50 million won, and if he fails to comply, a 12% late interest will accrue from September 1, 2019, until full repayment. The attorney explained, "Including interest, the total amount Park must repay now is 56 million won."
However, Park has not paid the compensation, and during the detention trial, he reported to the court that his assets consist only of bank accounts with less than 1 million won in total, including a 30 million won monthly rent deposit under another person's name.
