Mu-hyup, "Will Strive to Expand Economic Exchange Between Korea and Arab Countries"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Kim Young-joo, Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), visited the ‘13th Arab Culture Festival’ held at COEX in Samseong-dong on the 16th and discussed various ways to expand cultural and economic exchanges between Korea and the Arab countries with ambassadors from seven Arab nations.
Attending the event were Kim Young-joo, Chairman of KITA and Chairman of the Korea-Arab Society, along with Adel Adailah, Ambassador of Jordan to Korea; Shafik Hashadi, Ambassador of Morocco to Korea; Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Korea; Hazem Fahmy, Ambassador of Egypt to Korea; Zakariya Al Saadi, Ambassador of Oman to Korea; Elham Ahmed, Ambassador of Sudan to Korea; and Ahmed Al Jowaidi, Charg? d'affaires of Qatar to Korea, as well as former National Assembly member Kim Jung-hoon.
Chairman Kim Young-joo said, “This meaningful event allows us to indirectly experience the brilliant Arab culture during a time when travel is difficult,” and added, “Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, our companies are actively expanding into the Arab region, and we will strive to further enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two regions.”
Now in its 13th year, this year’s festival, themed ‘Meeting the Arab World in Seoul,’ began on the 15th and concluded on the 17th. The venue featured various experiential events, including a photo zone themed around the Petra ruins, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, palm-shaped Middle Eastern amulet drawing of the lucky Hamsa, and Arab tattoo prints.

Meanwhile, KITA has been supporting Korean companies entering the Arab region since opening its UAE branch in Dubai in 2018. In the upcoming November, various online and offline events are planned, including the ‘2020 Korea Excellent Products Exhibition (G-Fair) Dubai’ and the ‘Korea-UAE CEO Business Dialogue,’ which will invite CEOs of major companies from Korea and the UAE to discuss economic cooperation measures.
