Dr. Lee Chabeom Awarded 'Best Paper Award' by American Society of Mechanical Engineers
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Dr. Cha-beom Lee, a graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), received the Best Paper Award in the manufacturing technology field from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) on the 15th. Established in 1954, this award grants the recipient a plaque and a $1,000 prize at the ASME annual conference next June.
Dr. Lee received the award for his research on an interferometer capable of real-time measurement of wear and condition at the cutting tool tip. This measurement technique not only measures tool wear but can also quantify the roughness of semiconductor photomask edges and assess corrosion at the propeller tip from macroscopic to nanometer scales.
