'Election Law Violation' Rep. Yang Jeong-suk Indicted Without Detention Ahead of Statute of Limitations
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Independent lawmaker Yang Jeong-suk, who was accused of real estate-related allegations immediately after the 21st general election, has been brought to trial on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act as the statute of limitations approaches.
The Criminal Division 7 of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Park Gyu-hyung) announced on the 15th that Yang was indicted without detention on charges of violating the election law the previous day. The statute of limitations for election crimes in the 21st general election expires at midnight on the 15th.
Earlier in May, the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party's satellite party for proportional representation, the Together Citizens' Party, had reported Yang to the prosecution on three charges: violating the election law by underreporting assets and spreading false information, obstructing the party's official recommendation work, and violating the Act on Real Name Registration of Real Estate.

The prosecution investigating this accusation judged that Yang was guilty of violating the election law. However, the obstruction of business charge was dismissed due to lack of evidence, and the violation of the Real Estate Real Name Act was dismissed due to expiration of the statute of limitations with a 'no prosecution' disposition.
