'Seoul Mayor Candidate' Kim Seon-dong Secretary-General Announces Resignation
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Seon-dong, Secretary General of the People Power Party, tendered his resignation on the 14th.
A People Power Party official told Asia Economy in a phone call on the same day, "Secretary General Kim met with Emergency Committee Chairman Kim Jong-in in the morning and expressed his intention to resign."
Secretary General Kim was included ex officio in the by-election preparation committee launched on the 12th, but there were repeated conflicts of interest pointed out regarding those who might run for Seoul mayor participating in the committee. In this regard, Ji Sang-wook, head of the Yeouido Research Institute, resigned from the committee, and Representative Park Soo-young drew a line on running for Busan mayor and took steps to resolve the issue.

Kim Sang-hoon, a People Power Party lawmaker in charge of the party's by-election primary preparation committee, appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' on the 14th and said, "If he (Secretary General Kim) intends to run as a candidate in next year's by-election, I expect him to make a judgment to step down not only from his position as a member of the primary preparation committee but also from any other positions that might cause misunderstandings."
