POSCO Transfers 200 Technologies Free of Charge to 88 SMEs
Technology Sharing Activities Promoted by the Government Since 2013... Participation Since 2017
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] POSCO will transfer 200 technologies from six group companies to 88 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies free of charge. This is part of the technology-sharing initiative promoted by the government since 2013, with POSCO participating since 2017.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that on the 14th at 10:30 a.m., it will hold the 'Ministry of Industry-POSCO Technology Sharing Event' at the Novotel Ambassador Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul, attended by representatives from POSCO, the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT), and beneficiary companies.
Technology sharing is a win-win growth project between large corporations and SMEs/mid-sized companies, where unused technologies owned by large companies are transferred free of charge to SMEs and mid-sized companies in need, providing new business opportunities. This initiative has been promoted since 2013.
The 200 technologies to be transferred this time include industrial equipment, materials, and hydrogen energy technologies. They are expected to be utilized for domestic technology development and entry into new industrial sectors.
Specifically, ▲ four technologies will be transferred to a company possessing industrial motor diagnostic solutions to compete with foreign solutions ▲ four technologies will be transferred to a battery material manufacturer to respond to global electric vehicle battery demand ▲ seven technologies will be transferred to a hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer, which will combine them with its own technologies to launch commercial products early.
Five POSCO group companies will participate in this event. Furthermore, since most of the transfers will be in the form of technology assignments, the likelihood of successful commercialization is expected to increase.
Additionally, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed among the Ministry of Industry, six POSCO group companies, and KIAT to establish a cooperative system for expanding technology sharing. The Ministry of Industry will oversee the overall process, POSCO group companies will provide technologies, and KIAT will manage the system operations.
A special lecture on patent utilization and investment attraction strategies for beneficiary companies will also be held on the day.
Jang Young-jin, Director of Industrial Technology Convergence Policy at the Ministry of Industry, said, "Today's event, held amid the difficult economic situation caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), demonstrates the spirit of solidarity and cooperation in our industry."
