Euljiro 4-ga and Sanlim-dong Area Transformed into Art Spaces
The 'Eulji Sansu' Surrounding Building Exterior with 14 Paintings is Spectacular... Highlight of the Exhibition is the Multimedia Art Show 'Eulji Fantasia: daydream' on the Nights of 17th-18th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) announced that the 'Eulji Fantasia Exhibition' organized by the Jung-gu Cultural Foundation will be held from the 16th to November 14th in the Euljiro 4-ga Sanlim-dong area.
In this exhibition, Euljiro is expected to transform into a fantasia of a theater where urban spaces and stages unfold in daily life, encompassing day and night, inside and outside.
The Jung-gu Cultural Foundation stated that through the 'Eulji Fantasia Exhibition,' it will highlight Euljiro in 2020 as a platform where urban industrial sites and art meet.
Although the Sanlim-dong area remains the forefront of urban industry with large and small ironworks, during this period, visitors strolling through narrow alleys will encounter artworks by chance, allowing them to remember the everyday life of Euljiro in a new light.
First, visitors can enjoy 'Eulji Drama' and 'Eulji Sansu' at the Eulji Art Center during the 'Eulji Fantasia Exhibition.'
The Eulji Art Center is a warehouse building transformed into an exhibition space. Here, the dramatic coexistence of the old and the new in Euljiro, and the contemporary scene embracing diverse perspectives and ways of thinking, are expressed through art by various artists in 'Eulji Drama,' which is planned to captivate the audience's eyes.
Also, 'Eulji Sansu,' which reinterprets the culture and scenery of downtown Euljiro by surrounding the building's exterior walls with 14 paintings, can be viewed throughout the Sanlim-dong area, with the rooftop on the 4th floor of the center being an ideal spot for exhibition appreciation.
The highlight of the 'Eulji Fantasia Exhibition' is 'Eulji Fantasia: daydream.'
It is held only on the nights of the 17th and 18th and is a multimedia art exhibition expressing the traditional image of Euljiro’s lighting and tool industry through light and sound. On the afternoon of the 17th, visitors can also experience a live screening of band and DJ performances themed around Euljiro.
Key participating artists include installation artist Yoon Ji-woong, who archives the unique sounds of Euljiro across genres; installation artist Jin Ki-jong, who neutrally observes and reconstructs contemporary facets; and artist Lee Won-kyung, who intuitively depicts Euljiro’s night using cats as a motif.
On-site viewing of the exhibition is accepted by advance reservation on a first-come, first-served basis, with visitors selecting their desired date and session. To comply with quarantine guidelines, the number of visitors per session is limited to 70. Additionally, a free docent tour program is held daily at 7 p.m. to help understand the Euljiro 4-ga area and the exhibition.
