Gwangyang 'Hanguk Creative Arts High School' Recruiting New Students for Next Year
Recruiting 60 Students: 40 for Music and 20 for Art
Gwangyang City Provides Nearly 1 Billion Won Annually, Minimizing Student Education Expenses
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] ‘Korea Creative Arts High School,’ the first public arts high school in Jeonnam region, is recruiting new students for next year.
The number of recruits is a total of 60, including 40 students for the Creative Music Department and 20 students for the Creative Art Department. Applications will be accepted for four days from the 19th to the 22nd.
The preliminary gathering will be held on the 28th at the gymnasium of Korea Creative Arts High School. The practical exam will take place on the 29th, and successful candidates will be announced on the 4th of next month.
Eligibility requirements include those who are expected to graduate from middle schools nationwide in February next year, graduates, those who have passed the middle school equivalency exam, and those recognized as having academic ability equivalent to middle school graduates.
The selection method is based on a total of 400 points. For the Creative Music Department, academic grades account for 160 points (40%), practical exam scores 200 points (50%), and interviews 40 points (10%). For the Creative Art Department, academic grades account for 240 points (60%), practical exam scores 120 points (30%), and interviews 40 points (10%).
If the practical exam score is below 50%, the applicant will be disqualified, and if double application is confirmed, acceptance may be canceled even afterward.
Students admitted to ‘Korea Creative Arts High School’ will receive classes in an educational environment differentiated from arts high schools in other regions.
First of all, there is almost no financial burden on students for education. Generally, tuition fees for arts high schools, including regular tuition and individual learning expenses, range from 3 million KRW to as much as 10 million KRW per year.
However, ‘Korea Creative Arts High School’ receives an annual budget of 1 billion KRW for 10 years, totaling 10 billion KRW, through an operational support agreement with Gwangyang City, so there is no education fee paid individually by students.
Also, with the budget supported by Gwangyang City, students can visit world-renowned art cities for classes.
Music students can attend classes and study at the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory in Russia, and if conditions permit, professors from the conservatory plan to visit Korea directly to guide the students.
To this end, the two schools signed a business agreement for school exchange in May 2019.
Art students will tour art museums in France and Italy and participate in workshops at local famous artists’ private studios.
Overseas training for students is also supported by Gwangyang City, so students bear no costs.
The 22 instructors in music and art fields who have been teaching students since this year hold master’s and doctoral degrees and have experience lecturing at prestigious universities nationwide, ensuring high-quality education that is not inferior to arts high schools in the metropolitan area.
The school facilities and surrounding environment are also considered top-class nationwide.
The school building, constructed on a site surrounded by Gwangyang Madong Reservoir and forest, has a total floor area of 11,010㎡ (one basement floor, three above-ground floors) and is equipped with 55 individual practice rooms and studios, a multipurpose auditorium, and dormitories.
Musical instruments and teaching materials used by students for practice are sufficiently provided according to the student quota, and each teaching tool is a high-end product of superior quality.
A student currently enrolled in the first grade said, “Korea Creative Arts High School was a subject of interest for many local students since last year’s recruitment due to its excellent facilities and unprecedented support,” adding, “Having experienced life here this year, everything has exceeded my expectations, and I can confidently tell juniors preparing for arts high school to choose our school.”
