Gwangju Dong-gu, Cultural Center Area 'Night Tourism' Revitalization Forum
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 13th that it will hold the '2020 Culture Complex Night Tourism Forum' both online and offline at 2 p.m. on the 15th in the large conference room of Dong-gu Office to explore ways to revitalize night tourism.
Night tourism is a new core project promoted by Dong-gu this year, aiming to recover the tourism industry, which has been depressed due to COVID-19, and to seek ways to revitalize the local economy through night tourism in the Culture Complex area.
In the past, tourism trends mainly showed that tourists rested at accommodations during the night.
However, recently, as travel shifted from group tours to individual and solo travel, the number of tourists wanting to experience local life and culture has increased, making night tourism more active and positively impacting the revitalization of the local economy.
In line with this, Dong-gu is hosting this forum, organized by the Korea Smart Tourism Association, under the theme of ‘Revitalizing Night Tourism in the Culture Complex Area Using Smart Tourism Technology.’ The forum will include ▲analysis of the domestic and international status of night tourism by inviting tourism experts from various fields ▲sharing of best practices ▲and exploring innovative plans linked to smart tourism to create demand for night tourism travel.
In particular, through sharing analyses of domestic and international night tourism and benchmarking utilization cases, the forum is expected to be an opportunity to explore innovative ways to create high added value through the tourism industry in Gwangju, the Asian Culture City, by establishing a night tourism foundation and a smart tourism ecosystem to attract domestic and international tourists.
In the first part of the forum, Professor Song Jin-hee of Honam University will chair, and presentations will proceed in the order of ▲Professor Lee Hee-seung of Honam University’s topic on ‘Exploring Ways to Revitalize Smart Night Tourism in the Culture Complex Area’ ▲Dr. Cho Young-ho’s ‘Cases of Regional Night Tourism Revitalization’ ▲Chairman Lee Young-geun of the Korea Smart Tourism Association’s ‘With Corona Smart Tourism & Tourism Venture Development’ ▲and Professor Shin Chun-sung of Chonnam National University’s ‘Smart Tourism City.’
The second part of the forum will feature presentations on night and smart tourism companies by six tourism venture companies, including ‘Smart Platform Next Story.’ After the forum, participants will experience smart tourism by touring major tourist sites in the Culture Complex area aboard the smart tourism mobility movv.
This event will be held both online and offline to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and due to attendance limits, citizens wishing to participate can access the YouTube channel ‘Korea Smart Tourism Association.’

Although it is regrettable that offline events have been reduced due to COVID-19, I hope many people will connect online and show great interest in Culture Complex area urban tourism.”
