View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Hyundai Mobis has established a platform where software (SW) courses can be taken online in line with the untact trend accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the 13th, Hyundai Mobis announced that it has opened a new online SW education platform that allows employees to enhance their SW capabilities regardless of time and place. This is because independent SW development capabilities are essential for developing integrated solutions that combine core component technology and future vehicle electronic systems technology.
The newly launched platform mainly consists of beginner-level courses for general employees interested in developing their SW capabilities. Specifically, it offers 45 courses necessary for SW development beginners, including programming basics, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. Hyundai Mobis also built a system that allows simultaneous online coding practice while attending lectures. The courses offered on the online platform can accommodate up to 1,000 participants simultaneously.
Hyundai Mobis plans to actively reflect employee demand to expand the number of participants and courses available in the online SW education program.
Offline SW education courses are also being operated. Since 2018, through the ‘SW Academy,’ programs have been prepared focusing on convergence SW courses suitable for future vehicle fields such as autonomous driving sensors, connectivity, and infotainment. The strategy is to systematically cultivate employees’ SW development capabilities by dividing the online courses into beginner levels and the offline courses into advanced and specialized levels.
Additionally, to establish a self-directed SW development culture, Hyundai Mobis holds an ‘SW Algorithm Competition’ for employees. This competition, now in its second year, had about 100 participants including researchers and general office workers. Participants solve tasks using creative coding skills in four different computer languages within a set time.

Park Tae-jung, Head of Hyundai Mobis R&D Support Office, said, “We plan to increase the number of SW education participants from the current level of about 3,000 to about 5,000 next year to actively support employees’ SW development capabilities.” He added, “Through these educational programs, we will create synergy by combining the HW design capabilities and SW technology capabilities accumulated so far in the future vehicle field.”
