UN and EU Jointly Condemn North Korea's New ICBM Reveal... "Comply with Security Council Resolutions"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The United Nations and the European Union (EU) have jointly criticized North Korea's new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) unveiled at the military parade on the 10th and issued a statement urging compliance with UN Security Council resolutions.
According to Radio Free Asia (RFA), on the 12th (local time), the UN spokesperson's office responded to inquiries about North Korea's new ICBM with a statement from UN Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres, saying, "North Korea and its leadership must fully comply with their international obligations under UN Security Council resolutions and resume diplomatic efforts for sustainable peace and the complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula." Earlier, North Korea had publicly displayed the new ICBM and various strategic weapons through a broadcast during the military parade commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea on the 10th.
The EU also criticized North Korea in unison with the UN and urged compliance with UN Security Council resolutions. On the same day, Nabila Massrali, the EU spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy, stated, as reported by RFA, that "North Korea's unveiling of the new ballistic missile shows that it continues to violate its obligations under Security Council resolutions."

Spokesperson Massrali emphasized, "The EU is convinced that lasting peace and security on the Korean Peninsula can only be achieved through the complete, verifiable, and irreversible dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear, missile, and weapons of mass destruction programs," adding, "It is important for North Korea to implement the agreements previously made with South Korea to avoid conflict and facilitate smooth communication."
