Park Neung-hoo "Adhere to Quarantine Rules to Balance Prevention and Daily Life"
1481 Confirmed Patients in Isolation Receiving Treatment on the 11th... "Improvement in Medical Response Capacity"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jung] "To achieve a balance between quarantine measures and daily life, all members of society are urged to comply with quarantine rules from their respective positions."
Park Neung-hoo, the 1st Deputy Head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH), on the morning of the 12th at the CDSCH meeting held at the Government Complex Sejong in Sejong City, urged the entire nation to adhere to quarantine rules on the first day of the social distancing level being lowered to Level 1.
Deputy Head Park said, "Over the past three weeks, the daily number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has decreased to below 100, maintaining a downward trend," adding, "The metropolitan area has decreased to around 50 cases, and non-metropolitan areas to around 15 cases."
He stated, "The number of confirmed patients isolated and receiving treatment has also decreased from 4,786 on September 3rd to 1,481 on the 11th of this month, indicating an overall improvement in medical response capacity."
However, he mentioned that sporadic cluster infections are occurring in several regions, and the impact of the Chuseok holiday and the October holidays needs to be monitored.
Deputy Head Park said, "Considering the accumulated fatigue of the public from about two months of strengthened social distancing and the negative effects on the livelihood economy such as the burden on self-employed individuals, we announced adjustments to social distancing measures yesterday," adding, "We minimized forced closures and suspensions of some facilities while strengthening precise quarantine measures according to the risk level of each facility."
He explained that while the autonomy of each quarantine subject is guaranteed, responsibility has been increased by imposing fines and other penalties for serious violations of quarantine rules.
