Guk Ga-bi Clarifies Birthday Party Controversy During Self-Quarantine: "Apologies for Reckless Behavior, Diligently Paying Health Insurance Fees"
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Chef and YouTuber Guk Ga-bi recently clarified the controversy surrounding her. She apologized for not following quarantine rules during a birthday party held in self-isolation and stated that she is diligently paying health insurance premiums for her treatment.
On the 11th, Guk Ga-bi bowed her head and said through her YouTube channel community, "I want to apologize for causing discomfort and concern to many people due to the video uploaded on my YouTube channel last night."
She continued, "When I made the difficult decision to come to Korea for treatment, I wanted to thoroughly prepare for self-isolation and the rules, so I checked the information and even inquired about the guidelines at the public health center," adding, "I was informed that if social distancing (2m) is maintained and masks are worn, face-to-face conversations are allowed."
Earlier, on the 10th, Guk Ga-bi uploaded a birthday party video on her YouTube channel to celebrate her birthday. The video showed acquaintances coming to her house to visit her during her self-isolation after returning from the UK. Viewers criticized this as a reckless act violating quarantine rules.
After the controversy arose, Guk Ga-bi deleted the video and posted an apology. She also contacted the local public health center to take definite measures if there were any violations of quarantine rules in the uploaded video and explained the exact situation.
Meanwhile, regarding the controversy over whether she was receiving treatment domestically without paying health insurance premiums after choosing to come to Korea for endometriosis treatment, she drew a clear line, saying, "I am paying diligently."
She explained, "As a citizen of the Republic of Korea, I want to be a Korean who earns money honestly and pays taxes honestly, so I am diligently paying health insurance premiums, income tax, and local taxes," adding, "Although I live abroad, I am neither a UK permanent resident nor have I acquired Argentine nationality."
