70% of Voice Phishing Losses Unrecovered Over 3 Years... Suhyup Leads with 81% Recovery Rate
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Over the past three years, 70% of the financial losses from voice phishing have not been recovered. The Suhyup Bank had the highest unrecovered rate.
According to data submitted by the Financial Supervisory Service to Choi In-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, on the 11th, the total amount of voice phishing damages at 18 commercial banks from 2018 to June this year was 1.0289 trillion KRW, of which 717.6 billion KRW, or 70%, has not been recovered.
By bank, Shinhan Bank had the highest damage amount at 207.5 billion KRW, followed by Kookmin Bank (196 billion KRW), Nonghyup Bank (186.1 billion KRW), and Woori Bank (158.2 billion KRW).
Among regional banks, Busan Bank had the highest amount at 12.6 billion KRW, followed by Daegu Bank (8.8 billion KRW), Gyeongnam Bank (8.1 billion KRW), and Gwangju Bank (3.9 billion KRW).
In terms of unrecovered rate, Suhyup Bank was the highest at 81%, followed by SC First Bank at 77%, Shinhan Bank at 76%, Woori Bank at 75.5%, and K Bank at 75%.
Suhyup and Nonghyup jointly operate regional mutual finance services, and the damage scale was larger in regional Suhyup and Nonghyup branches mainly used by elderly customers and cooperative members.
