'World Food Programme (WFP)' Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize This Year (Update 2)
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] This year's Nobel Peace Prize honor went to the World Food Programme (WFP).
The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on the 9th (local time) that the United Nations-affiliated World Food Programme was selected as the Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
The Nobel Committee stated, "WFP has worked for peace in regions suffering from conflict," and "before the COVID-19 vaccine was available, the best vaccine was responding to hunger," as the reason for the selection.
The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in December at the University of Oslo in Norway.

This year, there were 318 nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize, including 211 individuals and 107 organizations. This is the fourth highest number of nominees in history. The highest was 376 in 2016. However, the list of nominees is not disclosed to the public and remains secret for 50 years.
