Five Middle and High School Students Confirmed COVID-19 Positive at Study Room in Daejeon... 17 Cases Linked to Chuseok Gatherings

According to Daejeon City on the 9th, five middle and high school students (Daejeon cases 378 to 382) who attended a study room of Daejeon case 372 (female in her 50s) were confirmed positive for COVID-19 the previous day.
Daejeon case 372 is one of the family members who tested positive after having a meal together following the Chuseok holiday grave clearing.
The city conducted COVID-19 tests on 63 students who had contact with the confirmed case at the study room from the 2nd to the 5th, and among the results, two middle school students and three high school students were confirmed positive while asymptomatic.
Accordingly, the city plans to check the recent school attendance of the confirmed students and conduct COVID-19 tests on their family members and contacts met at school.
Besides these students, secondary infections from contact with Daejeon case 372 include three family members of a woman in her 70s (Daejeon case 366) and one neighbor of this woman (case 369).
Earlier, Daejeon case 372 went to Yeongcheon, Gyeongbuk, for grave clearing with her family on the 1st. Subsequently, among her family, her parents (Daejeon cases 370 and 373), husband (case 371), younger brother and his wife (cases 374 and 375), and nephews (cases 376 and 377) were consecutively confirmed positive for COVID-19.
In total, including the confirmed case, her family, the students with secondary infections, and acquaintances, the number of confirmed cases related to the Chuseok holiday grave clearing and gatherings in the region has risen to 17.
Meanwhile, on the 8th in Daejeon, an 80-year-old woman (Daejeon case 219) who was undergoing treatment after testing positive for COVID-19 passed away due to viral pneumonia. It was 45 days after starting hospitalization.
