"Faster and Cleaner"... The World of Eco-Friendly Supercars
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Recently, the eco-friendly car trend is also blowing through the high-performance luxury supercar market. Supercar brands that had focused on pushing the performance of internal combustion engines to their limits are now concentrating their development capabilities on eco-friendly high-performance car technologies such as electric and hybrid vehicles.
According to the automotive industry on the 11th, the British supercar brand McLaren plans to launch a new high-performance hybrid supercar model worldwide in the first half of next year. McLaren announced that its first hybrid model has entered the final stage of the testing program, although the model name has not yet been disclosed.
McLaren plans to introduce a new electrification architecture in this new hybrid model. The strategy is to maximize supercar performance by applying ultra-lightweight chassis technology using carbon fiber materials. McLaren's second production center, the 'McLaren Composite Technology Center,' is responsible for the design, development, and production of this architecture. Additionally, the new hybrid supercar will combine a new standard V6 engine with an electric motor and will feature an EV-only driving mode, allowing drivers to experience the driving feel of a pure electric vehicle.
Another supercar brand, Porsche, is preparing to launch its first pure electric vehicle, the 'Taycan 4S,' domestically in the second half of the year. This electric car can travel 407 km on a single charge and has a maximum output of 390 kW. The time to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (zero to sixty) is only 4 seconds.
The higher-tier Taycan Turbo has a motor maximum output of 500 kW and a zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of 3.2 seconds, while the top trim Taycan Turbo S boasts a maximum output of 560 kW and a zero to 100 km/h time of about 2.8 seconds. Porsche Korea plans to sequentially introduce the Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S domestically next year, starting with the entry-level model 'Taycan 4S.'

Rimac's 'C-Two,' unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, demonstrated astonishing performance with nearly 2,000 horsepower motor output and a zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of 1.8 seconds.
Hyundai Motor Company, which made a large-scale investment in Rimac last year, is developing high-performance electric vehicles together with Rimac. At the Beijing Motor Show on the 2nd, they unveiled the high-performance electric vehicle concept 'RM20e,' which boasts a maximum output of 810 horsepower and maximum torque of 97.9 kg·m.
